At Dragon Taekwondo, our martial arts classes and summer camps include flexibility training to help children and beginners achieve their goals and unlock the ability to excel in taekwondo. Your child will learn kicks that are great for use in sparring (which is also great for use in self-defense outside of a dojo.) They will also learn kicks they might be familiar wit

How Do You Create a Ninja Warrior Course?

Image
What could be better than experiencing our ninja course program in Milton? How about having one in your backyard? It may be too difficult to add in some of the more complex elements of our ninja courses, like the rock wall, but you can still create a challenge worthy of your little ninja warriors. Here are some of the physical obstacles you could add to your yard. Log Steps   Help your child learn balance and agility by using logs. Cut small logs down to size so they are a foot to two feet off the ground (if your child is young, or just starting out, it would be better to use mats that are flush with the ground to avoid injury). Set them up so your child will need to jump to get from one to the other. Use wide logs and ensure they are very stable to encourage safety. Walk the Plank   Walking down a narrow plank is a challenge for people of any age. Get a 2×4 plank of wood and some other supporting materials, like additional planks of wood, to hold it slightly up off the ground. Ensur

How a Black Belt in Taekwondo Helps Develop Character ?

Image
You might frequently hear from  black belt academies for taekwondo   that martial arts and earning a black belt specifically help children (and even adults) develop and refine their character. How can a simple physical practice help you become a better person? Someone who is more focused, disciplined, and in charge of their self-image? We’ve seen many children and people grow through getting a black belt in taekwondo, even if they started off as pretty good people Black Belts are Personal  There are no public wins, goal-scoring, or glory-hogging in martial arts. Everything that you accomplish, you do on your own schedule and for yourself. There is still a public appreciation for achievements, of course. But it is not the same kind of environment as team sports, where one person or child seems to take more of the credit for a win, or a loss, than others. Black belts are always personal, and that helps you focus on yourself. Balanced Challenge  When something is too easy, you don’t grow

What Can a Ninja Course Do for Your Child?

Image
When you first heard of a ninja warrior course for kids, you may have thought it was a cute idea but not an enriching one. It’s fun to climb things and move like a ninja, but is it really an experience your kid needs to have? In a time where kids are overscheduled, and there is so much going on in a family’s life, why make time for a fun obstacle course? There are plenty of reasons to enjoy a ninja course. Character Building Ninja obstacle courses help build more than just muscle. We believe that all taekwondo-related activities, including our obstacle courses, should be grounded in our values. Those include self-discipline, respect, self-control, sportsmanship, and much more. Through the ninja course, your child will be challenged mentally as well as physically, adding on another experience that helps them grow up to be a person who shares your values. There are no participation trophies here, but they’re also isn’t a crushing level of challenge. All challenges should be moderated

Why Your Kids Should Join Winter Taekwondo Camps

Image
Have you thought of letting your kids get some winter fun in at Dragon Taekwondo? Martial arts are a perfect pursuit for the colder months. Here are seven reasons why your kids should try a winter camp with us. 1.Get Exercise In   It’s no secret that it is harder for kids to exercise and burn off steam when it’s cold outside. You may need to make up for the lack of outdoor activity with some more planned indoor activities. Kids can enjoy exercising during winter taekwondo camps despite the cold. 2.Social Development When kids are playing less outside, they are also spending more time online. That isn’t necessarily bad unless it cuts into their development, particularly their social development. You can break the screen cycle and get your kid face-to-face with other kids in a martial arts class. 3.Stress Relief When you burn off energy, focus on movement, and get out of the house for a bit, you feel a big stress relief boost. Kids are the same way. Modern life puts a lot of stress on a
